Data is the essential raw material of the digital modern, yet drawing information from (big) data sets remains a complex and often intimidating process. Being a social scientist and media developer, I'm a late bloomer in Data Analysis. Yet, scraping, exploring, and visualizing data has propelled my everyday work as a teacher and researcher. This workshop is aimed at everyone curious about 'doing data': I will show different application scenarios and discuss best practices from data journalism and media studies. In the second part, we will have a hands-on session analyzing and visualizing a dataset with Tableau – a leading software tool for Data Analysis and interactive visualization.
