Conference "Democracy in Uncertain Times"
On June 12 and 13 there will be a conference on the timely issue of “Democracy in Uncertain Times” at Justus-Liebig-University. The conference will be organized by the special research cluster SFB “Dynamics of Security” and the GGS-Section “Human Rights and Democracy”.
There will be two keynotes by Humeira Iqtidar (“Justice from the Global South”) and Gargi Bhattacharyya (“Racial Capitalism is a Question about Solidarity and Survival”). Furthermore numerous guests from political science, sociology, philosophy and neighboring disciplines will discuss pressing problems of democracy and processes of securitization, including Luciana Ballestrin, Maeve Cooke, Jodi Dean, Rainer Forst, Ina Kerner, Marina Martinez Mateo, Nomalanga Mkhize, Vicki Squire, Tilo Wesche, and Raul Zelik, among others.
With panels on “Securitization of Climate Politics,” “Racialized Democracy,” or “The Rise of Autocracy,” among others, a broad spectrum of current discourses related to democracy and security will be negotiated.
