The Animal Behaviourial Ecology and Ecophysiology group tracks European turtle doves on behalf of NABU in order to understand migration routes and riscs for migrating birds.

Being a rather common bird species years ago, the Turteltaube became an endangered species today. The beautiful, small dove spends less than half of its annual live cycle in Europe. It appears end of April/beginning of May in order to breed, before returning to the dry steppe of subsahara Africa by September/Oktober again.
