As a result of the energy revolution, scientists are carrying out research worldwide into more efficient batteries – for example for cars or for storing electricity from alternative sources. One focus is on new concepts for hybrid batteries. Prof. Dr. Jürgen Janek of the Institute of Physical Chemistry and the Center for Materials Research is working with his team in search of the battery of the future.

In cooperation with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the research group is working on solid-state batteries which could replace traditional batteries in the future. The promising work has led to a joint proposal submitted by KIT and the University of Ulm for the Cluster “Energy Storage beyond Lithium. New Concepts for a Sustainable Future”. Professor Janek’s research group has participated in the proposal.
