Courses of Study at JLU from A-Z

Taught in German. All language subjects are also taught in the respective language; almost all English courses are taught in English. The degree programme in primary education, or 'L1' as it is known, prepares students to teach Years 1-4 at German Grundschulen. Graduates get a teaching certificate for Years 1-6 in their particular teaching subjects.

The degree programme in lower-secondary education, or 'L2' as it is known, prepares students to teach Years 5-10 at German Hauptschulen and Realschulen but also the same level at grammar schools (Gymnasien).

The course of studies for the Lehramt L3 (the teaching qualification for grammar schools) prepares students for teaching secondary school years 5-13 in grammar schools and also for middle schools and secondary modern schools as well as for teaching general education classes in vocational schools.

The degree programme in special-needs education, or 'L5' as it is known, prepares students for teaching at German special-needs schools as well as at primary schools and, in their chosen teaching subject, at lower-secondary schools.

Taught in German. Giessen University offers a range of Bachelor's and Master's degrees, among them the BA and MA which qualify graduates to teach at vocational schools. All language subjects are also taught in the respective language; almost all English courses are taught in English.
