Immersive technologies are opening up new pathways for higher education didactics and inclusion.

In the current Media Reflection Competence podcast of Philipps University Marburg, hosted by Raja Möller and Fabian Wolbring, the focus is on virtual reality in higher education teaching.

The guest is Ramin Siegmund, Instructional Designer in the NIDIT project – Network for Impactful Digital and International Teaching Skills. His expertise includes immersive technologies, game-based learning, and e-learning formats.

In the conversation, Ramin Siegmund explains how VR and AR can be used in teaching: from virtual tours to medical training and role plays. As a complement to traditional formats, VR offers particular strengths in the areas of immersion, interaction, and imagination. At the same time, Siegmund points to risks such as motion sickness, safety issues, and possible emotional overload. He emphasizes that careful preparation, technical introduction, and follow-up are crucial to turn the initial wow effect into sustainable learning.
