Topics

Presenting and explaining effectively are two essential aspects when lecturing a tutorial course. Both when transmitting knowledge and when answering questions, tutors need to communicate clearly. In this workshop, we will focus on the basic principles on how to explain effectively and we will provide various practical tips that are helpful for explaining and presenting in online and in face-to-face tutorial courses. In the second part of the workshop, tutors are invited to test their own rhetorical skills (verbal and non-verbal) in a practical exercise.

Learning Goals

  • Know the basic principles on how to explain effectively;

  • Define different speaking techniques;

  • Analyse rhetorical skills (verbal and non-verbal) in the digital world and in face-to-face teaching;

  • Recognise unsuccessful styles of presentation;

  • Know your own style of presenting and explaining;

  • Be able to present and explain effectively to the target group of your tutorial course.
