Model United Nations: Experiencing International Diplomacy in New York!
Are you interested in global issues and international affairs? Do you want to discuss issues that have global significance and work together to find practical solutions? Are you interested in exchanging ideas with students from all over the world?
Then this is the right place for you!
Model United Nations are international conferences, which sometimes bring together more than 2.000 students from different countries. They are simulations lasting several days in which the workings of the United Nations and diplomatic negotiations are simulated.
On September 9 and 10, 2022, our GiMUN took place in Giessen for the first time. GiMUN (Giessen Model United Nations) is an English-language conference simulating a session of the United Nations. It was organized by the association GiMUN e.V. with support from the chair team of Professor Marauhn. All students as well as high school students could participate. Participation is free of charge and is be certified with an official certificate.
On Friday 9.9. there was a mandatory Rules of Procedure Workshop for the introduction to MUN with assignment of the countries to be represented, from 1:30 pm until about 5:30 pm in a seminar room at JuWi Campus Licher Straße 76, 35394 Gießen.
On Saturday, Sept. 10, a full-day simulation of a United Nations Crisis Session took place from 8:30 a.m. to about 6 p.m. in the plenary hall of the city hall in Giessen. At the beginning the topic of the Crisis Session was announced. In the following, the participants discussed the issue as representatives of their assigned country, gave speeches and worked out solutions in informal negotiations and adopted two resolutions at the end.
The Model United Nations colloquium is offered every winter semester by the Chair of Professor Marauhn and serves as preparation for participation in one of the well-known MUN conferences. For this purpose, students of law can acquire a foreign language certificate or a key qualification. Students from other departments can also participate.
