Two JLU researchers at “Educating the Global Citizen” Conference
Prof. Jürgen Kurtz and Dr. Leo Will from the JLU English Department will, respectively, be giving a presentation at the international conference “Educating the Global Citizen – International Perspectives on Foreign Language Teaching in the Digital Age” held in Munich (March 25-28). The conference features famous guest speakers such as Michael Byram and Claire Kramsch. In times of rapid and unprecedented global sociocultural change, the conference endeavors to promote a democratic and human rights culture in schools and the larger community.
Jürgen Kurtz’ talk is titled: “Neoliberal Narratives of Threat and the Recalibration of Language Teacher Identity – ‘Fabricating’ Useful Multilinguals for an Expanding Global Economy?”
Leo Will’s talk is titled: “Make Pragmatics Great Again! – Teaching Implicatures and Presuppositions for the Development of Media Literacy in the Age of Twitter and Facebook”
