Research interests

  • Population genetic divergences in non-model plant species under known constrains (e.g. time/geography) results in drift, adaptation, selection and evolution, but how and how fast?
  • Reconstruction of the molecular phylogeny of the Cichorieae (Lactuceae) within the Asteraceae with special emphasis on tribal, generic and species delimitation
  • Investigating the impact of foreign genotypes upon native plant populations in the course of road side renaturation prjects or on compensatory sites.
  • Developing transcriptome fingerprinting techniques for population genetic investigations of non-model species
  • DNA-Metabarcoding and environmental barcoding of pollen (airborne pollen, insect pollen and pollen in honey)*

  • Investigating speciation processes in plants by conducting genetical, morphological, karyological, and ecological analyses
  • Concept development to safeguard and link primary biodiversity data
  • Establishment of a global network to make DNA containing material with related information accessible (Extention of the DNA bank network, supported by the DFG) in cooperation with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History/US
