Research Interests

Research Interests

Streams perform a variety of functions essential to ecosystems such as carbon retention, water transport and self-purification. Human impact (climatic changes and toxic substances) affect the structure and function of the streams.

My focus is on the structure and function of aquatic ecosystems in the temperate and tropic zone which includes streams, reservoirs and flood plains under various impacts.

Further I am studying the interactions between different groups in the ecosystems mainly bacteria, fungi and algae in biofilms, but also interactions between macrophytes and biofilms.

The functional aspects include the extracellular enzyme activity and the leaf litter decomposition by macroinvertebrates and microbial biofilms.
