Visiting professorships in 2018

The Liebig-College invites every year visiting research professor, who give top-caliber lectures and seminars complementary to the themes of the JLU research groups. In 2018 our visiting research professors will be:

Prof. Thomas Baumgartner (York University, Toronto)
	Thomas Baumgartner is a Full Professor and Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Organomain Group Materials at York University in Toronto, Canada. His research group works on molecular and supramolecular organophosphorus pi-conjugated materials with a focus on sustainable energy-conversion and -storage schemes. Particular focus is placed on the synthesis of molecular and polymeric materials suitable for applications in organic electronics such as Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs), Organic Photovoltaic (solar) Cells (OPVs), Organic Batteries, and sensors. Furthermore, possibilities for enhancing the solid-state performance of these materials through formation of supramolecular nanomaterials are investigated. Professor Baumgartner will be our Liebig-Lecturer from 10^th - 15^th June.

Prof. Michael Harmata (University of Missouri, Columbia)
	Professor Harmata is known for his famous [4+3]-Cycloadditions. Furthermore he is developing new chiral Kagan's ether and Troeger's base centers for applications in catalysis and is constructing new chiral benzothiazine ligands for asymmetric catalysis. Professor Harmata will be our visiting professor from 17.05 - 15.08.

Prof. Michael Sherburn (Australian National University, Canberra)
	Michael Sherburn is Professor of Chemistry at the Research School of Chemistry at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. He studied chemistry at The University of Nottingham in England, from where he obtained his PhD degree in 1991, then as a postdoctoral fellow at the Australian National University. He held positions at Massey University in New Zealand and The University of Sydney before returning to the Research School of Chemistry in late 2002. His group’s research interests are largely focused the development of efficient synthetic methods, strategies and tactics for the synthesis of natural and unnatural structures. Professor Sherburn will be our visiting professor from August 30^th - September 7^th.
