Research topics about Fasciola hepatica
Infections of sheep and cattle with the liver fluke Fasciola hepatica cause enormous economical damage worldwide. Due to its zoonotic potential, also humans are affected with estimated 80 million infected people. Mortality and morbitidiy is caused by migrating juvenile stages as well as liver-resident adult worm stages.
Our research group works on the biology and drug deveopment against Fasciola in 3 different projects
DRUID platform project: Platform Fasciola, Filaria, Schistosoma, Echinococcus – knowledge transfer and, compound screening
Identification of compounds targeting key biological factors in the liver fluke Fasciola hepatica
