Australia

Dogs and cats may only be imported to Australia from / via approved countries. Not eligible for import into Australia are certain breeds (e.g. dogo Argentino, fila Brasileiro, Japanese tosa, American pit bull terrier or pit bull terrier, Perro de Presa Canario or Presa Canario).

Dogs and cats must be vaccinated with an inactivated rabies virus vaccine that was given when the dog was at least 90 days of age and is valid, in accordance with the manufacturers directions, at the time of export.

Dogs and cats must be identified by a microchip prior to blood sampling.

Between 180 days and 24 months before export a blood sample must be drawn by a government approved veterinarian and sent to a laboratory approved by the competent authority in the exporting country to be tested for antibodies against rabies virus.

The animal is not eligible for export to Australia until at least one hundred and eighty (180) days have passed from the date that the blood sample is drawn for the RNAT test (with a satisfactory result of 0.5 IU/ml or more).

All cats and dogs must complete a minimum of 10 days in an Australian quarantine facility.

Additionally dogs and cats must be treated for internal and external parasites before being imported. Dogs must be vaccinated against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Para-influenza and Bordetella bronchiseptica; cats must be vaccinated against feline enteritis (also known as feline panleucopenia or feline distemper), rhinotracheitis and calicivirus.
