Hawaii

Checklist for the 5-day-or-less program

All steps need to be completed in order to qualify for this program. If this is not possible the pet will undergo quarantine for up to 120 days.

Before import dogs and cats have to be vaccinated at least twice against rabies in their lifetime. For the first vaccination the animal has to be at least 12 weeks old and the dates of the vaccinations have to be more than 90 days apart. The second rabies vaccination has to be done not more than 12 resp. 36 months prior to the pet`s date of arrival in Hawaii for a 1- resp. 3-year rabies vaccine and not less than 90 days before the pet`s date of arrival in Hawaii.

Before the rabies antibody test is performed the pet needs an electronic microchip implanted. The result of the blood test has to be at least 0.5 IU/ml. The test has to be performed at least 120 days but not more than 36 months before the date of arrival in Hawaii. If the animal is brought to Hawaii earlier than 120 days after the blood test, the quarantine is extended up to 120 days.

Within 14 days before import a health certificate in English has to be issued by an official veterinarian which includes all information about the rabies vaccinations and tick treatments. For quarantine dogs need a current vaccination status for distemper, infectious canine hepatitis, canine parvovirus and canine parainfluenza. Cats need a current vaccination status for feline panleukopenia, feline rhinotracheitis, feline calicivirus and chlamydia psittaci.
