Research activities of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine cover a wide range of interesting fields which reflects the different disciplines of Veterinary Medicine.
They vary from the examination of transporters to the molecular biological characterization of pathogens arising from animals or from food of animal origin, from the pathophysiology of reproduction to the development of innovative diagnostic procedures and therapies.
Also located at the Faculty is the DFG- research group 1369 ( FOR 1369)"Sulfated steroids in reproduction". Other working groups at the Faculty participate in the clinical research group 181 (KFO 181/1) "Male factor infertility due to impaired spermatogenesis" and in the following focus of research "Mensch, Ernährung, Umwelt" of the Justus-Liebis-University.
In addition to that members of the Faculty are part of different sections of the "Gießener Graduiertenzentrum Lebenswissenschaften (GGL)".
These activities are reflected by an extraordinary high amount of external funds:

According to Förder-Ranking Bericht der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (Bericht S. 92)
the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen is ranked number one throughout Germany in the field of Veterinary Medicine regarding the external funding per scientist and per professor.
