Combining Career & Family

career_family.jpgWe are aware that scholars with children face manifold challenges in successfully aligning their PhD with parenthood. Therefore the GGK offers support to PhD students who are or become parents during their membership.

We help you logistically

The GGK offers support with any logistical problems you are faced with in your every-day life with children: For example, we can help you to find an appropriate day-care and answer your questions concerning the financial support offered by the German government.

We assist you in planning your career

Parents have the same needs whatever academic level. Our mentoring-program offers the opportunity for our graduate students with children to talk to scholars who have successfully managed to combine family life and career, and want to share their experiences and give advice. If you as a PhD student are interested in talking to one of them, please contact .

We get together

Parents at GCSC and GGK gather once every term with their kids to share their experiences as parents and scholars. All PhD students who already are parents or who are thinking about becoming a parent are invited to join.
