This subject-related module allows second-year GCSC and IPP members of FB05 to reflect on their first years and plan the PhD journey that still lies ahead. Tips and exercises are designed to help participants successfully make significant strides in their research and writing. The course will cover topics related to both the conditions and emotions surrounding their work and the contents and structures of their dissertations, such as:
o   Managing time and tracking progress
o   Staying motivated and avoiding burnout
o   Narrowing the project’s scope
o   Structuring writing
o   Dissertation introductions
 
Registered participants should submit their working titles and tables of contents to Dr. Pfalzgraf no later than one week before the course.
 
 

// Dr. Magdalena Pfalzgraf is currently the IPP (International PhD Programme "Literary and Cultural Studies“) coordinator at Justus Liebig University, Gießen. She was a research associate at the department of North American literary and Cultural Studies at Saarland University Saarbrücken and an adjunct faculty member at the New English Literatures and Cultures (NELK) subdivision at Goethe University Frankfurt. Her PhD thesis explores mobility dynamics in anglophone Zimbabwean literature in the post-2000 period. Research interests include Southern African literatures in English, Transculturality, Border studies, Mobility, Movement, and Migration in Literature, Music & Musical instruments in literature. She is consolidating research for her Habilitation on colonial and postcolonial literary engagements with music.
