The use of digital media in university teaching offers many advantages for lecturers and students - but often also raises new questions for lecturers: What possibilities do I have to support my teaching with digital media? Which legal aspects do I have to consider? Which tools and which methods are best suited for my teaching situation, my target group and my learning/teaching goals? How much time and effort does the use of a particular tool require - and what are the benefits for me and my students?
These are just a few of the questions you (have to) deal with if you want to use digital media in your teaching.
With the E-Learning Lunch Bag Session, we would like to offer you regular opportunities from the winter semester 2018/19 onwards to clarify these and other questions in exchange with colleagues, to share your own experiences and to develop new ideas together with other participants.

Our Service

The E-Learning Lunch Bag Session was set up to give you the opportunity to exchange all your questions and experiences about the use of digital media in university teaching in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff of the "Lehre 4.0" project will be on hand to advise and assist you.

The offer is intended to support you in...
...constructively use of digital media in university teaching.
...realistically assessing the advantages and disadvantages as well as the costs and benefits of using special e-learning tools.
... reflecting and conceiving e-learning/blended learning scenarios together in exchange with (interdisciplinary) colleagues - and applying ideas from different subject areas to your own teaching practice if necessary.

Save The Date

After one year of E-Learning Lunch Bag Session | WRAP UP we would like to celebrate this with you. We review the year and discuss our main topics in review of the exciting year of digitised university teaching. In this LBS we would like to give you the opportunity to reflect together on your own digital teaching and to uncover links to our format.

In addition, we will present our future key topics and create open slots according to your wishes and needs. As always, you can expect a hot cup of coffee and colleagues from JLU Giessen who are interested in digitisation and who have exciting ideas and experiences from their everyday digital teaching to share and support each other in a collegial and informal atmosphere.

Nov 27, 2019 The ILIAS-App Pegasus offers you as a teacher the possibility to link learning content with certain GPS coordinates or learning locations and thus enable students to learn in authentic situations. This makes it possible, for example, to implement learning scenarios in which students can apply and test their knowledge directly on an object in the real world - be it a plant, a building or a work of art. For example, they can answer questions about these objects or acquire knowledge about botany, statics or art history at a specific learning location. Open tasks are also conceivable, in which students are invited to explore and experience their surroundings in an explorative way. Together we will take a look at practical examples on how to create learning locations in ILIAS. In addition, we will discuss possible application scenarios in your subjects.

Interactive whiteboards, often called SMART boards, have found their way into more and more universities and sometimes completely replace blackboards and beamers. However, the correct handling of these devices often proves to be a challenge in many respects. The interest and curiosity in the interactive and digital boards is large, the application scenarios in teaching are versatile but still new. In this Lunch Bag session we would like to give you an overview of the devices and their use by presenting the free software Open Sankoré. In addition, you will have the opportunity to use an interactive whiteboard and get ideas for your university teaching.

The alternative date shall be May 13, 2020!

E-Leanirng Lunch Bag Session meets Didaktik Café

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are future technologies and increasingly used by companies for the further training of their staff. Real work situations can be simulated and special learning scenarios can be implemented. Nevertheless, it is still unclear in which direction this technology will develop in the coming years. This session aims to give an overview of the current state of the art, previous research results and scenarios.
Participants will also have the opportunity to test individual applications in VR/AR for themselves. Finally, there will be an outlook on how virtual learning scenarios can be created.

The event will take place at ZfbK, Karl-Glöckner-Str. 5a, 35394 Gießen, Room 108.

Tablet, laptop (or smartphone) required.

The principle of flashcard training relies on the repetition of knowledge and the associated storage in long-term memory. Digital flashcard training takes traditional learning with paper flashcards to a new level and, as a digital form, offers numerous advantages for teacher in higher education teaching and their students. For example, modern flashcard software enables sorting functions, supports the integration of media such as films, audio recordings and pictures and university lecturers can track and specifically support the learning progress of students. We show the ILIAS PlugIn for digital flash card training, guide through the application and discuss didactically useful application scenarios.

Explanatory videos allow complex information to be presented in a short, concise and visually appealing manner. Explanatory videos are short videos that use drawings or animations, but also pictures. The use of explanatory videos is diverse in university teaching. As an alternative to lectures or as part of lectures given by students, university lecturers can activate, reach, reuse and reproduce their plenary themselves through the forced use of explanatory videos. Using the example of the browser-based software Powtoon, we demonstrate how explanatory videos can be designed, what needs to be considered in production, what options are available in the design of explanatory videos, and we discuss how they can be used didactically in teaching.
