The HRZ provides all students and staff at JLU with an email address and an electronic mailbox with storage space for emails and other data.
Apply for an email address
Students automatically receive an email address and the associated HRZ-Benutzerkennung (User Account) assigned and handed over with a chip card, account letter upon enrollment.
Employees get an e-mail address with the proposal off HRZ-Benutzerkennung (User Account).
E-Mail addresses at JLU
E-Mail addresses at JLU have the following structure:
For example, Max Mustermann from the economics department has the e-mail address Max.Mustermann@wirtschaft.uni-giessen.de and Melanie Musterfrau from the Department of Organic Chemistry have the address Melanie.Musterfrau@org.chemie.uni-giessen.de
For a correct function it is essential that only the complete and valid e-mail address assigned to you is used and passed on to communication partners.
For arbitrary abbreviations of the address such as B. Mustermann@uni-giessen.de no guarantee is given that the delivery of e-mails to this address will work correctly now and in the future! The HRZ will not set up any alias addresses for unassigned, arbitrarily shortened addresses, even if these have been in circulation for a long time.
You are required to read your JLU emails regularly. The easiest way is to access it via webmail. If you still have an old email account, use Horde. If you have Exchange, use OWA. If you're unsure what you're using, log into OWA - if that doesn't work, you still have Horde.
