Educational Linguistics

Overview

Overview

Spokesperson: Prof. Dr. Jana Gamper

In Educational Linguistics, research and teaching activities are combined, in which the mutual connection of linguistic issues, concepts, and models reflect a description and analysis of processes concerning language acquisition and language teaching. Anglicists, Germanists, Romanists, Slavists, and Turkologists intensively work together with linguists and educationalists from all philologies. Three particular points pertain to the following fields of research:

  • Aspects of language policy and language pedagogy relevant to the concepts of multilingualism, and the construction of identity through language;
  • The use of digital media, corpus, and computational linguistic technologies for language analyses as well as language teaching and learning;
  • The description and analysis of language acquisition in general, with consideration given to the media differentiation of speech and writing, particularly of language in the classroom.
