In the fall semester of 2015/16, Prof. Dr. Claus Leggewie was appointed by the President of the Justus Liebig University Giessen  to be the first recipient of the Ludwig Börne Professorship. Leggewie taught political science in Giessen from 1989 through 2007, where he, together with Henning Lobin, founded the ZMI in 2001. From 2007 to 2015, he served as the director of the Cultural Studies Institute (KWI) in Essen and the Center for Global Cooperation Research in Duisburg. From 2008 to 2016, he was a member of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU). He is a member of the board of directors of the ZMI and launched the "Panel on Planetary Thinking" at the JLU.
