Rehearsal and selection of candidates and projects
All submitted project applications will be reviewed in a blinded fashion by all steering committee members and ranked according to predefined rules (25% innovative character/scientific excellence, 25% methods, 25% feasibility, 25% potential impact).
In case a steering committee member is submitting a project, the steering committee member will be excluded from the evaluation process. The evaluation of the candidates will take place during a public rehearsal taking place once a year. The rehearsal shall only take place if at least 6 members of the committee can participate during the entire rehearsal. Each applicant will give a short scientific talk on the scientific project she or he has been accepted on, followed by a short discussion. Each candidate will be evaluated by the steering committee members (25% previous achievements, 25% presentation style, 25% appropiate handling of critique and questions, 25% potential).
In case a steering committee member would be in the supervisor group of one candidate, this member will need to abstain from reviewing the respective applicant. At the end of the rehearsal, the applicants will be ranked according to the scores they received by the steering committee. The scores on the projects and the scores on the candidates will be merged, with 50% of the final score resulting from the evaluation of the project, and 50% of the final score resulting from the evaluation of the candidate. Finally, the best 8 candidates / project combinations will be accepted for the respective year.
