Detailed Discription of the Sessions

Sessions “Lithium|Electrolyte Interface and Interphase”: The focus of these sessions is the investigation of lithium metal|electrolyte interfaces and interphases with solid and/or liquid electrolytes. In the first part the “reactivity view” is focused. Besides the discussion of chemical stability issues, advanced methods for interface and interphase characterisation are presented. In the second part a more “mechanical view” is addressed, including issues like pore formation and contact loss, which are important aspects for solid electrolytes.

Sessions “Lithium Surface Modification”: After the introduction of some of the issues for lithium metal interfaces and interphases, these sessions cover surface modifications of lithium metal anodes to improve their performance (e.g. “protected Li anode”). Both parts focus on surface modification strategies for liquid-electrolyte cells and ASSBs, for example through functionalization or morphological modification.

Sessions “Design of Lithium Anodes”: In the last part, different concepts for lithium metal anode design to overcome problems in the application are discussed. The talks focus on ideas beyond lithium metal foils, such as alternative lithium shapes, and anodes without pure lithium metal, e.g. host structures or “anode-free” concepts.
