Dr. Elena Xoplaki

Dr. Xoplaki has a Ph.D. in science at the University of Bern, Switzerland and currently deputy head at the Institute of Geography at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen. In this role, she researches climate change and its impacts and teaches at the Department of Geography at the BSc and MSc levels.
She is an expert on climate change in the Mediterranean and has carried out analyzes on extreme weather conditions (heat waves, floods, droughts, etc.) as well as on health effects and paleoclimatology. Climate reconstructions / model comparison, influence of the circulation on the European and Mediterranean climate. She has participated in and coordinated several European, Swiss and US research projects.
