Our Mission

Through the establishment of an organisational and structural frame for multidisciplinary cooperation, the ZEU encourages and supports international research activities related to development and environmental research at the Justus Liebig University. In this regard, the Centre is not only responsible for the implementation of research projects and the publication of selected findings, but it also organises workshops, symposia and lectures on current topics. Moreover, the ZEU contributes extensively to the training of the next generation of young researchers through integrating doctoral students and junior scientists into academic procedures and projects carried out by the ZEU. Thanks to these activities, the ZEU is not only a reliable cooperation partner engaged in transdisciplinary research, but it also supports the JLU’s internationalization objective and sets incentives for its many visiting researchers.

Since its foundation, the ZEU has successfully implemented more than 80 interdisciplinary projects, including, amongst many others, capacity-building-procedures. These successes reflect the broad base from which the ZEU acts at the JLU:  A wide selection of JLU professorships in development or environmental research are represented by active membership in ZEU.
