Intercultural Training for International PhD Students

Culture and Communication

The ability to interact effectively with individuals with different cultural values, communication styles, attitudes and behaviors is a required skill for living and working in an intercultural environment. A lack of intercultural sensitivity and effective communication skills, can often lead to many challenges and unnecessary misunderstandings.

In this interactive workshop, you will develop cultural (self-) awareness, a tolerance towards cultural differences and gain practical tips to reduce misunderstandings and encourage positive interactions and integration. Students will also be able to enhance their understanding of the close relationship between culture and communication and gain tips for effective cross-cultural communication.

Lecturer: Ms. Robbin Clarissa Bastian works at the International Office of the THM and as a freelance Intercultural Trainer. She was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, USA, has spent time abroad in Spain and has been living in Germany since 2005.
