weekendseminar on "Sustainable Cities – Urban Future?"

What jeopardizes a European model of sustainable urban development? In order for cities to be “green and healthy”, what do we have to do? There is much more to do than just reducing low-carbon usage. Our example is the city of Darmstadt and its project to become a “smart city“: We will discuss eco-friendly solutions. For example, there are “smart” street lights that can regulate the intensity of light they emit in order to save energy as well avoid light pollution. By installing sensors in a lamp post, parameters of the quality of the city’s air can be measured and thus contribute to reducing air pollution.
