The Faculty of Language, Literature, Culture invites applications for a

 

W3 Professorship in Modern English and American Literature

as of now.

 

Reference is made to § 61 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG) and to the conditions of employment based on § 62 HHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.

 

Duties:

The successful candidate will represent the full range of Modem English and American Literature. Research foci should be in English literary history from the early modern period to the present and in literary theory. A focus on English literature and culture before 1800 as well as an interest in media theory and its interaction with the history of media and literature is desirable.

 

Teaching duties will include classes in all teacher training programs as well as BA and MA programs. The successful applicant is expected to be actively involved in the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC) and in the International PhD Program in Literary and Cultural Studies (IPP) as well as in the PhDnet.

 

Contributing to the faculty's accent areas and to academic networking within the university is required.

 

We expect the successful candidate to collaborate in new research association initiatives and in the structural development of the faculty and the English department.

 

The professor should actively participate in pertinent international co-operations and engage in furthering the university's international profile through his/her own international connections.

 

Requirements:

We seek candidates with a first-rate PhD degree and additional academic achievements relevant for the field (e.g. Habilitation), who have proven their academic excellence in both research and teaching and have demonstrated international visibility and successful external fundraising.

 

In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under § 60 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
