Focus Area abstract

Since about 1985, diseases of the lung and heart have been researched at JLU, and innovative therapies have been developed on the basis of excellent basic research. In cooperation with the University of Frankfurt and the Max Planck Institute of Heart and Lung Research, JLU is an international leader in both lung and cardiovascular research, which is reflected in excellent publications, new therapeutic methods and the novel, joint, permanent institute of the three partners.

  • 2020: The start-up phase of the Institute of Lung Health (federal and state funding) begins.
  • 2019: Funding for EXC 2026 Cardiopulmonary Institute (CPI) as part of the Excellence Strategy begins, including 12 years of prior funding for EXC 147 ECCPS (Excellence Cluster Cardiopulmonary System).
