Our research focuses on the pathomechanisms of pulmonary fibrosis and acute inflammatory lung diseases, in particular, on the role proteases and their receptors in the aforementioned pathological conditions. The overall goal of our translationally oriented research activities is: i) to elucidate the importance of hemostatic proteases and their receptors in epithelial cell-fibroblast and macrophage-fibroblast communication during pathological lung tissue remodeling and ii) to reveal the molecular basis of the crosstalk between protease receptors and other signaling pathways known to play a pivotal role in lung inflammation and fibrosis. The ultimate aim of our activities is to develop new therapeutic concepts based on these investigations.
