AG Cultural Administration

The AG’s members organize cultural events such as film nights and film series, exhibits, concerts, and readings. In close cooperation with Career Services, the group stages practical workshops in the area of cultural administration.

The AG for Cultural Administration arose from a workshop on career opportunities – in Giessen and beyond – that was organized by the GGK/GCSC Career Services in June 2007. For doctoral researchers from the humanities and social sciences who are not drawn to a scholarly career at a university, the field of cultural administration can be very attractive. The goal of the AG is therefore to introduce doctoral students to this area by offering them the chance to gain practical experience and network beyond the walls of the university while they’re still enrolled. In addition, members can learn skills essential to project and event management that will increase their odds of career success.

The AG’s members organize cultural events such as film nights and film series, exhibits, concerts, and readings. In close cooperation with Career Services, the group stages practical workshops in the area of cultural administration. In order to reach beyond the walls of the graduate centre and open these opportunities to the public, the AG for Cultural Administration works closely with Giessen’s cultural stakeholders and keeps a finger on the pulse of the city’s cultural life. The AG’s members hope thereby to help position the graduate centre as a place where culture is not just researched, but actively co-produced.
