Core of the studies

The master's programme in Protestant Theology is designed consecutively to the Bachelor's Degree Programme Protestant Theology. You can study it as the major (50CP) and minor (40 CP). The structure of the Institute for Protestant Theology - reinforced by the cooperation with the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main existing since 2000 – includes five disciplines of Protestant Theology:

  • Old Testament
  • New Testament
  • Church History (History of church and theology as well as confessional studies)
  • Systematic Theory (dogmatics/ethics)
  • Practical Theology/Religious Education

As the third-largest subject of the Institute for History and Cultural Sciences at the JLU Giessen, Protestant Theology is one of the backbones of Faculty 04. Therefore, integrating Protestant Theology into a cultural, scientific graduate course as one of two subjects is necessary and participates in the interdisciplinary networking structures of the JLU Giessen.

Further information on the objectives of the study can be found here.
