Fr, 08.10. – Su, 10.10.2021, in Wetzlar Extreme Poverty! *event will be held in English **childcare will be offered.

With the 2030 Agenda, the international community has set itself the ambitious goal of eradicating extreme poverty. Although economic progress has led to a sharp reduction in extreme poverty worldwide, around 10 per cent of the world’s population is still living in extreme poverty. In other words more than 700 million people are still struggling to fulfil the most basic needs like health, education, and access to water and sanitation, to name a few. The majority of people living on less than $1.90 a day live in sub-Saharan Africa. In this seminar we ask ourselves how poverty can be measured and defined, discuss the current challenges, but also the successes. The students will identify barriers to future progress of Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG1) „End poverty in all its forms everywhere“ and develop ideas and solutions to overcome the challenges.
