Art and Media

This section brings together subject areas that are working at the intersection of media theory, media criticism, cultural media competence, and artistic practice with media. This encompasses the historical and systematic analysis of theatrical, literary, and cinematic forms of constructing mediality from aesthetic, poetic, and performative perspectives. Special attention is paid to new media staging that can be understood to express a constantly updated theatricalisation of a society which is being performed "digitally." The section's aim is to initiate an interaction between artistic activities (for example, at the Institute of Applied Theatre Studies) and media – or cultural-theoretical forms of reflection.
