The main language of instruction of this course of study is German. All language subjects are also taught in the respective language; almost all English courses are taught in English.

Master of Arts (MA)

Duration of studies

4 semesters - 120 credit points (cp)

since 21 August 2007

The Master`s course Modern Languages and Linguistics (MLL) takes students into the research profile of Giessen linguistics and in a research-oriented approach trains them in two or three philological disciplines. The linguistic sections of all modern language subjects of Faculty 05 (Language, Literature, Culture) and Faculty 04 (History and Cultural Studies) of Justus Liebig University participate with the following subjects:
  • English Linguistics
  • Computer Linguistics and Text Technology
  • German as a Foreign Language
  • German Linguistics: Texts – Media – Language Competence
  • Romance Linguistics – French
  • Romance Linguistics – Spanish
  • Slavic Linguistics
  • Turkish Linguistics
The aim of the course is to give students deep insights into linguistic sciences and comprehensive methodological linguistic skills. The title of the final degree reflects the combination of several neo-philological linguistics: MA Modern Languages and Linguistics.

Entrance Requirements

The requirement for acceptance into the Master's course is to have completed a Bachelor's degree at a university or an equivalent qualification. The decision as to whether the requirements have been met for acceptance into the Master's course or whether other, exceptional qualifications will be recognised in this decision, is made by the board of examiners.
