As a doctoral candidate you are taking your first steps into the scientific system. The workshop will help you to understand the scientific system, its norms and values and your position in it. During the workshop you also learn what regulations exist and how to apply them properly. On the last day, we will focus on how to implement good scientific practice, learn about data, data management and open access publishing.

Aims:

Participants of this course will learn about the specific situation as doctoral candidate in the scientific system and your responsibilities concerning good scientific practice:

  • develop awareness of good scientific practice
  • apply measures to safeguard good scientific practice
  •  know and avoid pitfalls concerning good scientific practice
  •  understand the purpose of guidelines and to discuss their topic confidently with other members of the scientific community.


Content:

  • 05.07.2021:
    Values and standards in science, setting basics, your situation as doctoral candidate
  • 06.07.2021:
    Standards and guidelines safeguarding good scientific practice, consequences of misconduct
  • 07.07.2021:
    Best practice examples: data management, publication of images, supervision agreements
