Inhalte:

In recent years more and more international students have been admitted to German universities and more international study courses have been developed. On the one hand, this is a wonderful opportunity to broaden the lecturers' cultural and communicative horizons. On the other hand, pretty often this can also be the source of misunderstandings and prejudices. This workshop will help to sensitize lecturers to intercultural communication and help them to act in intercultural environment.

We will explore how our cultural background defines our behaviour, especially our communicative behaviour while teaching, e.g. body language, tone of voice, turn-taking points, eye contact. And we aim to understand how misunderstandings in intercultural communications occur and how we can minimize them.

Feedback and video-feedback will help us get to know our own characteristics in communicative situations, especially teaching, and adjust them for an international context. Some models and maxims about communication will help us understand why we often misunderstand each other and how we can improve our mutual understanding.

Please note
This workshop will be conducted in English. Lecturers and PhD students with a ‚not-entirely-German’ cultural background are especially welcome to this course
