The progress of the project "iNOS based redox signaling in COPD associated PH – pathomechanisms and therapeutic exploitation" will be presented by Dr. med. vet. Simone Kraut.

Project outline:

Lung vascular alterations and pulmonary hypertension (PH) have been implicated in the development of emphysema and COPD, and PH correlates with patient survival. We showed in a tobacco-smoke mouse model that 1) lung vascular alterations precede alveolar destruction, 2) the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) is essential for PH and emphysema development, and 3) PH and alveolar degeneration can be reversed by iNOS-inhibition. We will investigate the hypothesis that ONOO- derived from iNOS-NO and NADPH-Oxidase-O2- drives PH and emphysema and aim to identify the iNOS carrying cell type(s) and ONOO--dependent signaling events of PH in COPD.

Everybody who is interested is very welcome to join our seminar series.
The seminars are taking place every second Tuesday from 18:00 - 19:00.
