The progress of the project "Importance of mitochondrial ROS for the development and progression of right heart failure" will be presented by project leader Prof. Rainer Schulz.

Project outline:

The transition from right ventricular (RV) hypertrophy to heart failure (HF) is associated with a rise in reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation. We hypothesize that ROS originating from mitochondria largely contribute to these events and that strategies to increase the antioxidative potential (superoxide dismutase over-expressing mice) or to reduce mitochondria-derived ROS signaling (to be investigated in uncoupling protein 2, p66shc, monoaminooxidase (MAO)-deficient mice) will allow the RV to be maintained in a compensated state. Moreover, mitochondrial proteomics will be performed in mice and human samples to screen for potential new targets involved in mitochondrial ROS formation.

Everybody who is interested is very welcome to join our seminar series.
The seminars are taking place every second Tuesday from 18:00 - 19:00.
