We would like to draw your attention to the International Conference on Evolutionary Computation (ICEC 2009), which has currently an open call for papers. ICEC will be held in Funchal, Madeira (a Portuguese sub-tropical island in the Atlantic), next October 5-7, and it aims at becoming a top reference for researchers and practitioners in its area (http://www.icec.ijcci.org).

Considered a subfield of computational intelligence focused on combinatorial optimization problems, evolutionary computation is associated with systems that use computational models of evolutionary processes as the key elements in design and implementation, i.e. computational techniques which are based to some degree on the evolution of biological life in the natural world. A number of evolutionary computational models have been proposed, including evolutionary algorithms, genetic algorithms, the evolution strategy, evolutionary programming, and artificial life.

This meeting will take place yearly, bringing together top researchers and practitioners in study, analysis, design, modeling and implementation of evolvable systems, especially those related to ICEC main topic areas. The conference is co-located with two related conferences in a joint conference format, namely:

The technical program will include a number of Keynote Lectures to be delivered by distinguished world-class researchers, including:

Submitted papers will be subject to a double-blind review process. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, in paper and in CD-ROM support. Additionally, a selection of the best papers of the conference may be published in a book, by Springer. Best paper awards will also be distributed during the conference. The conference proceedings will be indexed in several major indices.
