AAAS (Science Advances) – Discount of APCs for authors

For 2025 and 2026

The AAAS consortia participation of the JLU allows a 15% discount of the APCs for authors of the JLU if they publish in the gold open access journal Science Advances.

What do you have to do?

  • Please use your institutional e-mail address when submitting. Clearly state your affiliation with JLU Giessen both on the submission form and in the article itself.
  • As soon as your article has been accepted, you will be sent a link to the online payment system RightsLink.
  • After logging in to RightsLink please proceed as follows:
    • Select a publication license (we recommend CC BY 4.0).
    • Click on "Apply Discount" and choose the "Institutional Affiliation Discount". Then search the pick list for "Justus-Liebig Universität Gießen" (Universitaet Giessen).
    • Confirm with "Apply Discount".
    • Please check that the invoice has been updated and that the discount has been applied.
  • Please contact the JLU Giessen Open Access Team regarding payment of the invoice and possible funding via the Open Access Publication Fund.

If the article processing charges are less than 2.000 €, the OA publication fund will cover 50% of the costs; if the charges are above 2.000 €, the publication fund will pay 1.000 € (incl. VAT).

For junior scientists in their PhD process or with a PhD-graduation that is not older than five years, the OA publication fund will cover 75% of the costs and a maximum of 1.500 €. The support for junior scientists is only applicable if they act as corresponding author.
