20.11.2015 Brown Bag Lunch Lecture "Lessons from Schengen, or: the Revival of Borders within the EU" - Prof. Kees Groenendijk, Nijmegen

The first Schengen Agreement was signed 30 years ago. What can we learn from this form of cooperation between EU Member States? Will the present large scale migration of refugees from outside the EU result in a reintroduction of controls at the internal borders of the EU or rather reinforce the cooperation within the EU?

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kees GROENENDIJK is emeritus Professor of Sociology of Law at the University of Nijmegen (The Netherlands), founder and research fellow of its Centre for Migration Law, member of the Standing Committee of Experts on international immigration, refugee and criminal law (Meijers Committee) and member of the Odysseus Network of Experts on European Migration and Asylum Law.

 

He has published on the social and legal status of immigrants, EU and national immigration and race relations legislation, legal integration of immigrants and nationality law. He has coordinated a series of international comparative research projects concerning the legal status of migrants in the EU.
