Head Coach JLU Vis Moot Deborah Salomao

Dr. Deborah Salomao (Head Coach 2012-2016)

Deborah Salomão was Head Coach of the JLU Vis Moot Team from 2012 to 2016. She studied law in Brazil and later worked as a research assistant at Prof. Benicke’s chair, where she also completed her doctorate in the field of arbitration. Her academic and professional work has since remained closely connected to international arbitration.

During her time as a coach, the team participating in the 21st Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot received an Honorable Mention for Best Oralist in Vienna. This result was achieved under her academic and organizational guidance during the preparation process.

As Head Coach, Deborah placed particular emphasis on combining high academic standards with a strong team culture. She was known for maintaining demanding expectations in terms of preparation and performance, while at the same time fostering a collaborative and supportive working environment within the team.

A key aspect of her approach was the early international orientation of the team. Under her leadership, the JLU team regularly included both German and international students, particularly from Brazil, and already worked in English as its primary language of communication. In addition to her coaching role, Deborah has served as an arbitrator at Vis Moot pre-moots as well as in the oral rounds in Vienna.
