Dr. Alexandra Furch is an independent group leader at the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena (Plant Physiology, Prof. Ralf Oelmüller) with her scientific roots in phloem research (PhD in the lab of Prof. Aart van Bel) and phloem signaling in host-microbe interactions including the Pi symbiosis (PI Kogel`s lab from 2010 to 2013). She is interested in plant sensing of Pi related chemical components (e.g. calcium, sRNAs, phytohormones, electrical signals) and translocation of these signals over short and long distances within a plant, and between different plants and between plants and Pi. Mentee Furch has a long-standing expertise in botany and therefore complementary expertise to PIs Kogel and Kehr.
