Landscape, Water and Biogeochemical Cycles
Welcome to the Chair of Landscape, Water, and Biogeochemical Cycles
Mission:
Our team investigates fundamental processes governing the transport and fate of water, nutrients, and pollutants across landscapes. We focus on the questions: How do hydrological and biogeochemical cycles function, how do humans influence them, and what happens under conditions of global change?
The research integrates field experiments and modelling. On site and in-stream high-resolution monitoring systems combined with state-of-the-art analytics in the lab provide robust data sets. Process-based modelling and machine learning methods allow to understand system interactions and make future projections.
What might climate-resilient agricultural systems in Germany look like in terms of water usage? How do nutrient flows in tropical ecosystems respond to changes in land use? Our research is conducted both locally and on a global scale, with an international team of scientists from around the world working together.
