German Thesis Award Körber Stiftung

Every year, the Körber Stiftung presents the German Thesis Award to the best doctoral graduates in Germany from all disciplines. In addition to academic excellence, the Award primarily focuses on the broader social relevance of a particular piece of research. As such, the award encourages young scientists to highlight the value of their research to society and to discuss their work in public.

The Körber Stiftung awards prizes totalling more than € 100,000 for significant and innovative research, including three top prizes of € 25,000 each. This makes the German Thesis Award one of the most highly endowed prizes awarded to young scientists in the country. The competition is held under the auspices of Bundestag President Bärbel Bas.


You can apply for the German Thesis Award 2024 until 11:59pm on 1 March 2024.
Knowledge of the German language is necessary in order to apply. The application essay as well as a presentation in front of the jury are in German. Additionally, participants need either to have German citizenship or to have earned their PhD from a German university to be eligible. Therefore, the following information on the application procedure can only be found in German.

Dabei zählt vor allem die gesellschaftliche Bedeutung der Forschung: Wir ermutigen junge Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler dazu, den gesellschaftlichen Wert der eigenen wissenschaftlichen Leistung herauszuheben und sich einer öffentlichen Debatte darüber zu stellen.
