Prof. Angela Locatelli designated “Professoressa Emerita”

On 30 September 2021 at the Aula Magna of the University of Bergamo, Prof. Angela Locatelli was solemnly designated “Professoressa Emerita” – a symbol of great honor and academic excellence. One of the Founding Members of the European PhDnet “Literary and Cultural Studies”, as well as a distinguished scholar of the GCSC, Angela Locatelli was awarded this status as a recognition of her outstanding contributions in the field of literary and cultural studies. The decoration as Professoressa Emerita also celebrates her crucial role in the long-term establishment of the PhDnet programme as one of the main routes of internationalization at the University of Bergamo.

Angela Locatelli has been Full Professor of English Literature at the University of Bergamo, where she has served as Director of the Department of Languages, Comparative Literature and Cultures, and also as Director of the PhD Program in Euro-American Literatures from 2009 to 2018. She is one of the founders the International PhDnet “Literary and Cultural Studies” established in 2008 by JLU together with the Universities of Bergamo, Helsinki, Stockholm, the Catholic University of Portugal in Lisbon and later joined by Universities of Graz and Warwick. Angela Locatelli has been Visiting Professor at the University of Pennsylvania 1982 (English Department), Nihon University Tokyo (2004), and the Catholic University of Lisbon (2018). Angela Locatelli is on the Editorial Board of Armenian Folia Anglistika, and InScriptum and has been on the Editorial Board of: EJES The European Journal of English Studies, Textus (the Journal of the Italian Association of Professors of English). She has edited ten volumes on literary epistemology: The Knowledge of Literature / La conoscenza della Letteratura, 2002–2011 Bergamo University Press, Sestante Edizioni. Angela Locatelli has also written extensively on Shakespeare and Early Modern Culture, Rhetoric, and Literature. She has edited and annotated Henry Peacham Jr. The Merry Discourse of Meum and Tuum (1639), with front-page translation into Italian (1998). Her publications also include a book on the “stream of consciousness” novel, and several articles on Modernist and Postmodern fiction. Locatelli has widely published on issues of ethics and literature, and on emotions and religion. Her works have been published in Italy, France, England, Germany, Finland, Romania, Sweden, the USA, and Japan.
