GCSCThe Giessen Graduate Centre for Humanities (GGK) and the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC) are institutions of the JLU, which aim to achieve optimal conditions for doctoral candidates in cultural studies. They are additionally linked to the International PhD Programme (IPP) "Literary and Cultural Studies."

In terms of both structure and staff, the ZMI is closely linked to the GCSC. Cooperations between the ZMI and the GGK / GCSC have existed for many years across several areas. Points of contact can be found through the Research Areas of the GCSC (namely: "Cultural Memory Studies," "Visual and Media Culture Studies," "Culture, Language and the New Media," and "Political and Transnational Cultures"). With the Research Area "Culture, Language and the New Media“ (today "Media and Multiliteracy Studies"), the ZMI has frequently organised a colloquium since 2007. The GCSC was also involved in the LOEWE research project Cultural Techniques and Their Mediatisation.
