Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe

Herder-Institut e.V., Marburg

Herder Institut

The Herder Institute has been a crucial institution in Germany for historical research on East Central Europe since its foundation in April 1950. As a non-university institution (member of the Leibniz Association) that is funded by the German government and its sixteen federal states, it functions as a research and academic service centre.

The Herder Institute is always connected with the ZMI, currently collaborating on two projects: Virtuelle Rekonstruktionen in transnationalen Forschungsumgebungen - Schlösser und Parkanlagen im ehemaligen Ostpreußen and GeoBib – Virtueller Atlas und Online-Bibliographie der frühen Holocaustliteratur (both German only).
